a day with tlc

Come and join us

Tapestry Lunch Club is a not-for-profit social enterprise offering high quality small group day care support for people across Sussex, Surrey and the surrounding areas.  Our service is primarily for those who are socially isolated, lonely and may be experiencing symptoms associated with early dementia such as memory loss.

Working as a Host

We are looking for kind, versatile and empathetic people to join the Tapestry Lunch Club team.

We are looking for people who are:

  • Sensitive, empathetic, intelligent and adaptable to all particularly older people
  • Have flexibility and able to think on your feet
  • Have a can-do attitude and a great sense of humour
  • Be committed to promoting people’s independence
  • Ability to work on own initiative
  • Physically fit, lots of energy and be emotionally robust

You will also  engage with your guests’ families and friends.  As a host you will become an important anchor point during what can be an unsettled period in peoples’ lives.  The building of the a relationship between host, guest, client and family members adds a welcome element of continuity and helps in strengthening stability at this time.

We have had to adjust some of the day due to COVID-19, and have conducted a full risk assessment to ensure both our guests and hosts stay safe.  In principal, the day remains the same but hygiene and social distancing are now at the fore front of our minds.  We can share all our new procedures, hopefully temporarily, with you.  Please email for further information of how we can and intend to work safely.

How you work

Tapestry Lunch Club operates from Monday to Friday between the working hours of 9am and 5pm.  A  host with Tapestry Lunch Club is responsible for running a hosting day rom two to five guests.  After preparing their home for their guests, the host, using their own car, will collect their guests from their homes (within a 5-8 miles radius of the host’s home), in the morning between 10.00am – 11.30am and will return to the host’s home where they will enjoy a fun, sociable and stimulating few hours .  The host will return their guests to their homes between 3.00pm – 4.00pm.   The host prepares refreshments in the morning and afternoon and an excellent home cooked lunch.  You will not be expected to provide any personal care to your guests.

What you need

  • A home with easy access
  • A downstairs loo
  • Access to a 5 door car
  • Full driving licence

What we can do for you

We believe that understanding our guests fully is a critical part of a host’s role and therefore participation in our dementia support awareness training is a vital part of coming on board.  In addition we would want you to expand your knowledge of emergency first aid, food safety & hygiene, safeguarding and manual handling – all of which we support you to complete.  We also conduct an Enhanced DBS check unless you already have one.

  • Full training provided
  • Enhanced DBS
  • Excellent remuneration including holiday pay
  • On going support and mentoring
  • Incentive schemes and career progression

Working with us as a Volunteer

As a consequence of COVID-19, we are having to come up with alternative ways of working.   Working within Government guidelines, we will be open for business, welcoming our current and new guests back to our small group lunches.  We are looking for volunteer to join us (expenses will be covered).  Volunteers can work along side our hosts within the host’s home, engaging and interacting with the guests or as  support drivers.

As a volunteer driver, you will use your own car (5 door) in order to transport a minimum of 3 guests (dependent on COVID restrictions), have a full driving licence plus business car insurance.  Our drivers will transport guests within a 6-8 miles radius of the host’s home within the local communities of West Sussex and Surrey.  Driving duties will be once or twice a week and hours less than a couple in the morning (approximately 10.00-11.00/11.30am depending on guests’ postcodes) and a couple in the afternoon (3.30-5pm).   Our drivers need to be kind, versatile and empathetic, have flexibility and able to think on your feet, ability to work on own initiative and physically fit and lots of energy.  You will also  engage with your guests’ families and friends.

Do get in touch by either filling in the on-line form below or email or call us on 01403 791020. We look forward to hearing from you.
